FOUNDING BACKGROUND
The inception of UDA dates back to 2018 during the third year of the founder’s undergraduate studies (Industrial Design Department) at the Federal University of Technology, Akure, which was launched as a design club during his participation in departmental education politics. The goal was simple yet powerful to support and mentor new students admitted into the department, assisting them in design practicals and theories courses.
Though with its initiative it was recognised but the momentum became slow because of the COVID-19 pandemic- the vision endured during that phase but was transformed to as greated purpose.
WHY WAS Unicorn Design Academy ESTABLISHED
By 2023, the idea had matured into a more structured concept, and by early 2025, it was reimagined as a hybrid interactive learning platform with its mission to bridge the gap between the widened ecosystem between academia and industry in sectors related to design and technology. The founder participated in the JIM LEECH Mastercard fellowship in entrepreneurship remotely at Queen’s University, Ontario, Canada. Through this program he was able to transform Unicorn Design Academy into a fully pledged academy under the supervision of his program coach from Ghana.
